Board votes to close 10 campuses, effective the 2026-27 school year
What happened
On November 20, 2025, the board voted to close and consolidate ten campuses -- Barrington, Becker, Dawson, Oak Springs, Ridgetop, Sunset Valley, and Widen elementary schools, Winn Montessori, and Bedichek and Martin middle schools -- reassigning their students to nearby receiving schools starting with the 2026-27 school year, the school year now underway.
Why it matters to families
Families at the ten closed campuses had their children reassigned to different schools for the year that just started. The district said declining district-wide enrollment, a budget shortfall, and state D/F accountability ratings on some of the affected campuses drove the decision.
The evidence
The board's November 20, 2025 regular voting meeting agenda contains two action items -- 'Approval of Consolidation Plan Components Related to Turnaround Plans' and 'Approval of Consolidation Components Related to Programmatic Moves' -- each naming the closed campus and its receiving school(s). A later item on the June 18, 2026 agenda, proposing to declare several of these buildings surplus, confirms 'In November 2025, the Board of Trustees approved the closure and consolidation of multiple District campuses.'
