Blue Valley elementary schools begin a new social-emotional learning program

What happened

Blue Valley has selected CharacterStrong as its core social-emotional and behavior-learning resource for elementary schools, and implementation is underway. Staff training was completed over the summer, with elementary staff beginning lessons during a September professional-learning day.

The new resource changes the social-emotional learning materials used across the district’s elementary schools and is intended to support students’ behavioral and social-emotional skills.

The evidence

At the October 12 board meeting, the chief of support services said CharacterStrong had been selected as the elementary core behavioral and social-emotional instructional resource. Training for administrators, counselors, behavior consultants, and instructional coaches was completed over the summer, and staff training for elementary educators took place September 8.
