What happened

In a June 2026 district statement, Superintendent Dr. Lance Hamlin said Bonham ISD should have sent letters to parents in 2025-26 when their child was taught by an uncertified teacher, and it did not.

Why it matters to families

Texas law lets parents know when a teacher is not certified. Bonham ISD had 39 uncertified teachers in May 2025 and 14 in May 2026, so many families may not have been told. The district says it is fixing the process.

The evidence

The statement, credited to Bonham ISD and reposted by North Texas e-News on June 3, 2026, says notification letters 'should have' been sent in 2025-26 and calls it 'a lack of administrative follow-through.' A May 2026 district Q&A gives the 39 and 14 teacher counts.
