District asks the state to delay its teacher certification rule
What happened
In February 2026 the board voted to ask the Texas Education Agency to delay the teacher certification requirement in House Bill 2. HB 2 requires teachers to be certified by 2026-27 and bars hiring uncertified reading, math and science teachers.
Why it matters to families
Some teachers are not fully certified. In March, the board kept those teachers on probationary contracts. In August the JH/HS principal said all core teachers were certified except one, who is working on it.
