Enrollment has dropped by about 1 in 10 students in a year
What happened
Booker ISD had 300 students in October 2026: 137 at Kirksey Elementary and 163 at the JH/HS. A year earlier, in October 2025, it had 336. Kirksey fell from 156 at the end of last year to 137.
Why it matters to families
Texas pays schools mostly by student attendance, so fewer students means less state money for a district that already has a deficit budget.
