What happened

The superintendent recommends closing East Boston EEC, Greater Egleston High School and Charlestown High School, with the changes planned for June 30, 2028. Students at closing schools would receive priority in the 2028–29 school assignment process.

Why it matters to families

If approved, these closures would require affected students and families to choose or transition to other schools. The School Committee is scheduled to vote on the closure recommendations on December 2, 2026.

The evidence

The November 4 recommendations list East Boston EEC (grades K0–1), Greater Egleston High School (grades 9–12) and Charlestown High School (grades 7–12) for closure, effective June 30, 2028. The memo says students at schools recommended for closure will receive priority in the assignment process for 2028–29 and that the recommendations will go to a School Committee vote in December.
