What happened

The device policy permits possession but limits instructional-time use to emergencies, instruction or teacher authorization. Emerging-technology and writing rules require responsible, cited, original work and privacy and academic-integrity safeguards.

Why it matters to families

Families can distinguish a restriction on classroom use from a full-day possession ban and understand that teacher-directed AI support is allowed under stated safeguards.

The evidence

Policy 09.4261 was adopted June 25, 2025; Policy 08.2323 and the September 14 writing policy address electronic media, emerging technology and AI expectations.
