Superintendent's contract extended by two years

What happened

The School Committee voted 7-0 to extend Superintendent Michael Sollitto's contract by two years, with thanks. The vote came in the same year he steered the district through a cyber attack, a three-day blizzard closure, 21 teacher non-renewals and a budget he described as leaving no room for anything extra.

Why it matters to families

The superintendent sets district priorities and writes the budget. Locking in the post for another two years tells families who will be handling the funding squeeze he has warned is coming in 2028.

The evidence

The July 14, 2026 approved minutes record the motion to approve the Superintendent's contract to be extended 2 years with great thanks, and the unanimous 7-0 vote. The minutes do not state salary or other contract terms.
