What happened

Campbell County Public Schools spent the 2025-2026 school year using MagicSchool, an artificial intelligence platform that helps teachers write lesson plans and materials. In February 2026 the technology director told the board it was for teacher use only, with a pilot planned for students in the Teachers for Tomorrow class. On July 13, 2026 he and the assistant superintendent reported on the first full year of use by teachers and select students and answered board questions.

Why it matters to families

AI tools are moving into classrooms quickly, and how a division introduces them decides what students are allowed to use and what counts as their own work. Campbell County chose a slow path: adults first, then a small group of students. A board member said at the July meeting that she appreciated the slow rollout and the importance of limiting screen time. The minutes do not include a written student AI-use policy, so families should ask their school what students may and may not do with these tools.

The evidence

The approved Feb. 9, 2026 minutes record the technology director saying teachers have been trained on MagicSchool, that 'it is available for teacher use only,' and that a pilot with Teachers for Tomorrow students was planned. The approved July 13, 2026 minutes record an update on 'the first year of the AI platform, MagicSchool, piloted CCPS teachers and select students during the school year.'
