Voters decide Nov. 3 on school tax to close a money gap

What happened
On November 3, 2026, voters will decide two school tax questions. Question 1 would replace the current operating levy of about $286,660 a year with a new 10-year levy of about $636,660 a year, roughly $350,000 more. Question 2 would add about $100,000 a year for 10 years for repairs, safety, technology and curriculum. Question 2 only counts if Question 1 passes.
Why it matters to families
The district says it has spent more than it takes in for six years and has a gap of about $400,000 a year. It warns it could fall into statutory operating debt by 2028 without more money. That would bring state oversight and a required plan to cut spending. If both questions pass, the district estimates taxes on a $150,000 home would rise by about $693 a year.
The evidence
The official notice of special election, dated July 8, 2026, gives both ballot questions, the per-pupil amounts and a tax-impact table. The district's fact sheet and community presentation describe the six years of deficits, the roughly $400,000 gap and the FY2028 statutory operating debt warning.
