Proposal would keep 26 credits to graduate, more than the state's 24

What happened

On Oct. 20, 2026 the board had a first reading of a graduation policy for students who started 9th grade in 2025-26 or later. They would need 26 credits. The state requires 24. The extra two are one credit in communication and one capstone credit.

Why it matters to families

High school students would need more credits than the state minimum. A capstone can be work-based learning, a career-technical completer course, or a world language course. This is only proposed, and a second reading is needed to adopt it.

The evidence

The Oct. 20, 2026 board book has the full proposed policy IKF-I-7350 and the credit list.
