Cherry Creek is choosing a new superintendent: interviews in December, finalist in January
What happened
The board's search firm said 30 or more candidates from about 16 states are being vetted. Applications closed Oct. 15. The board will pick its short list on Nov. 4, hold first interviews Dec. 8 and 9, name a finalist Jan. 11 and vote on a contract Jan. 26. Dr. Jennifer Perry is interim superintendent.
Why it matters to families
The superintendent runs the whole district. Families asked for a more open search with several public finalists. The firm and board chose a closed search so strong candidates will not be scared off. The new leader may not start until summer.
The evidence
On the Oct. 5, 2026 recording, search consultant Walt Cooper reports about 1,600 survey responses and 13 focus groups (about 165 people). He says a confidential search brings a better pool. Board members repeat the December and January dates. Speakers in public comment asked the board not to rush.
