Chino High School and Marshall Elementary get new principals

What happened

After closed session on June 4, 2026 the board appointed Jonathan Cervantes as principal of Chino High School, effective July 1, 2026, by a vote of 4-0 with board member John Cervantes abstaining. In the same session it appointed Kitt Madkin as principal of Marshall Elementary School, effective July 1, 2026, by a unanimous 5-0 vote. Both took up their posts at the start of the 2026-27 school year.

Why it matters to families

The principal sets the tone of a school - discipline, safety, how quickly families get answers. Chino High School is one of the district's four comprehensive high schools, so this change reaches a large share of secondary families. Families at both schools started the 2026-27 year with a new person in charge.

The approved June 4, 2026 minutes record the closed session report: 'by a vote of 4-0, with Cruz, Na, Smith, and Shaw voting yes and Cervantes abstaining, appointed Jonathan Cervantes as principal of Chino HS effective July 1, 2026; and by a vote of 5-0 ... appointed Kitt Madkin as principal of Marshall ES effective July 1, 2026.'
