What happened

After HVAC units failed at Johnson-Williams Middle School in December 2025, the division has been replacing them. On September 21, 2026 the board sent $709,544 of FY26 carryover money to HVAC work. Staff said it should cover the middle school and Boyce, but Cooley's chiller will need more money next year.

Why it matters to families

Heating and cooling failures disrupted classrooms and pushed back other building projects. More repairs are still needed at Cooley.

The evidence

The September 21, 2026 minutes record the finance director's report that $709,544 of the $713,955 carryover will go to HVAC, that it should cover JWMS and Boyce, and that more will be needed for Cooley's chiller, plus unanimous votes forwarding the carryover requests to the Board of Supervisors.
