Board gives Cooley Upper Campus and land behind its office to the county

What happened
On September 21, 2026 the board voted 5-0 to surplus the D.G. Cooley Upper Campus and a lot behind the school board office to the Board of Supervisors. The county plans a Health & Human Services building and Parks and Recreation space.
Why it matters to families
Once property is surplused, the school board no longer controls it. Parents raised concerns in May about losing green space between the Cooley campuses and traffic near the school.
The evidence
The September 21, 2026 minutes record two unanimous motions: to surplus the property known as D.G. Cooley Upper Campus, and to surplus the property behind the school administration building, both to the Clarke County Board of Supervisors.
