Can Deweyville keep its savings steady?

Savings fell to about $2.07 million after an $823,000 loss in 2024-25; 2025-26 ended about $200,938 better than budgeted

Deweyville ISD runs an elementary school and a 6-12 high school in Newton County, Texas, with about 550 students. The 2024-25 audit showed the general fund spending more than it took in, and the district has since tightened its budget. Enrollment is growing, and the district says it is turning away transfer students.

Tax rate trending down

At the 2026 tax rate hearing, the district said its rate keeps falling as state compression lowers the maintenance rate and bond principal is paid down.
