District news
Duneland employees face higher 2027 health premiums and lower HSA contributions

What happened
The board approved 2027 health-plan premium increases of 10% to 20%, depending on the plan, and cut employer HSA contributions for high-deductible plans in half. Single-coverage contributions will be $1,250 and family-coverage contributions $2,500.
Why it matters to families
The higher premiums and smaller HSA contributions change the value and cost of employee health benefits across the district, potentially affecting staff finances and retention.
The evidence
At its October 26 special meeting, the board approved 2027 premium increases of 10% for the minimum essential coverage plan, 15% for the traditional high-deductible plan, and 20% for the PPO plan. Employer HSA contributions for high-deductible plans were approved at $1,250 for single coverage and $2,500 for family coverage, down from $2,500 and $5,000; the administration said this reduction reflected the self-insurance fund balance. The board approved the item by voice vote.
