What happened

The 2026-27 Student Code of Conduct, approved July 14, 2026, follows the new state law (HB 1481). Personal communication devices, including earbuds and smart glasses, must be powered off and kept out of sight for the whole school day, including on buses. Every violation means confiscation and a parent conference, and only a parent may pick up the device.

Why it matters to families

Repeat violations can bring in-school or out-of-school suspension, and a third offense can lead to placement in the disciplinary alternative program (DAEP). Devices not picked up are disposed of after 90 days.

The evidence

The Code of Conduct says "All personal communication devices must be powered off and kept out of sight for the entirety of the school day" and "Only Parent may pick up the device." The July 14, 2026 minutes record approval of the 2026-2027 Student Code of Conduct Handbook, 7-0.
