District news
Ethnic Studies added, and four years of Army JROTC
What happened
The Board of Education adopted a new half-year Ethnic Studies course for grades 9 to 12 and revised its designated English language development and International Baccalaureate courses. Three weeks later it adopted four Army Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps leadership courses for grades 10 to 12, each worth ten credits, together with their cadet textbooks, and in July approved a new JROTC salary schedule.
Why it matters to families
These are the courses a high school student can actually choose next year. Ethnic Studies is a California graduation requirement being phased in, and JROTC is a four-year commitment the district is staffing up for.
