Board censures trustee and orders follow-up on discrimination protections

What happened
The board voted 4–1 to censure Trustee Mark Cooper over remarks at a September meeting and asked him to resign. It also directed staff to propose an enforceable trustee conduct code within 90 days and publicly report on supports and complaint handling for Muslim students and families.
Why it matters to families
The resolution sets deadlines for stronger trustee accountability and a public review of how religion-based bullying and harassment complaints are handled. The request for Cooper’s resignation was not a removal from office.
The evidence
Resolution 2026-46 passed by a 4–1 roll-call vote. It directs administration, within 90 days, to recommend a trustee code of conduct with enforceable consequences for discriminatory remarks, identify relevant trainings, and publicly report on supports for Muslim students and families and how religion-based bullying and harassment complaints are received, investigated, and resolved; it also calls for review of board policies and requests Cooper’s resignation.
