What happened

KIPP Heritage Academy asked the board for a seven-year charter renewal at an Oct. 27 public hearing; the board took no renewal vote that night. The school said its state performance results make it eligible for a renewal of up to seven years.

Why it matters to families

Charter renewal determines whether the school may continue operating under district authorization and for how long. The board said it still expects to review the district’s findings before deciding.

The evidence

At the Oct. 27 hearing, KIPP Heritage Academy requested the full seven-year term, saying it qualified for renewal of up to seven years through California’s high-performance track. The school reported 78% of students meeting or exceeding ELA standards and 59% meeting or exceeding math standards; trustees discussed the petition, then closed the hearing without a renewal vote.
