Draft audit shows the district ran out of spare money

Financial

What happened

A draft audit for the 2025-26 year shows a negative unassigned balance of about $342,000 across the general fund and another local fund. A finance consultant suggested asking county commissioners for $300,000 to $500,000 more this year.

Why it matters to families

With no savings left, the district has little room for surprises and may need more county money or more cuts. Board members called it a broke school system.

The evidence

In the October 2026 recording the auditor presents the draft 2025-26 audit and the negative combined unassigned balance, and the consultant recommends the county request. The prior year's final audit already showed unassigned general fund money down to about $108,000.
