District overview

Genoa-Hugo School District C-113

How the one-school Genoa-Hugo district on Colorado's eastern plains is funded, run and maintained.

How is the district paid for?

State formula funding tied to a small, declining enrollment

Colorado's school finance formula sets total program funding from enrollment, with local property taxes paying part and the state the rest. For 2026-27 the business manager estimates about $4.119 million, roughly $20,422 per pupil, based on about 201 averaged students. Smaller grants add to this, such as $28,033 in postsecondary workforce readiness (PWR) money.

Enrollment

209 students with preschool, 195 without, at the start of 2026-27; 193 funded.

Local tax base

Preliminary assessed value $71.1 million for 2026, down from $72.1 million.

Cash

Matured certificates of deposit were moved to a high-yield savings account earning about 3.8%.

Audit

The FY2026 audit was under way in fall 2026 and reported to be ahead of schedule; the auditor merged into DMC Auditing and Consulting.

Averaging softens the drop from the 209 students the state projected to 193 actually funded, but payments will be trued down starting in January.
