Who runs Greeley-Evans Schools and how is it funded?

Large mixed-funding district facing flat-to-falling enrollment and a tight 2026-27 budget

Greeley-Evans School District 6 serves about 22,000 students in Greeley, Evans and nearby areas, including about 5,000 in charter schools. A seven-member board elected at large sets policy and a strategic plan called Innovation2030. Most money comes from the state school finance formula, plus local property taxes: the operating levy, a voter-approved mill levy override and voter-approved bond debt for new buildings.

Revenue

Staff told the board in June 2026 that total revenue is about $440 million across all funds.

Enrollment

The district projects 79 fewer funded students for 2026-27, after several years of decline.

Budget pressure

In April 2026 staff said cost increases of $14.9 to $18.4 million far outstrip about $5.5 million in new revenue, so central staff positions are being cut.

State shortfall

Staff cited about $250 million lost to the state's Budget Stabilization Factor from 2010 to 2023.

The finance chief also said the district's reserves are healthy and it is not considering school closures, unlike some other Colorado districts.
