State budget partially funds roof and locker-room projects, pending the Governor's signature

What happened

As of the legislature's May 20, 2026 adjournment, Haines' two capital priorities cleared the state's ranked major-maintenance funding list: $623,006 of the $909,452 requested for a roof replacement, and $864,954 of the $1,262,642 requested to renovate locker rooms the district describes as more than 40 years old with persistent plumbing and water-damage problems. Both awards are contingent on the Governor's signature and final sign-off by the Legislative Finance Committee.

Why it matters to families

These are the district's two largest facilities needs. Partial state funding still leaves the district responsible for the remaining local share — roughly $286,000 for the roof and $398,000 for the locker rooms — before either project can be completed.

The evidence

The June 2, 2026 board packet's superintendent's report states the specific requested and allocated dollar amounts for both projects, citing the Department of Education's ranked major-maintenance list, and notes the funding still depends on the Governor's signature.
