District news
District signs up to 10-year lease for former St. James School
What happened
On June 11, 2026, the committee approved a lease with the Archdiocese of Boston for the former St. James School building at 415 Primrose Street, Haverhill. Rent starts at $386,696 for the first year (July 2026-June 2027) and rises to $426,840 by the fifth year. The lease includes an option to extend five more years, which would raise the rent further to $482,930 by the tenth year.
Why it matters to families
This is a large, multi-year financial commitment for extra building space, on top of the district's regular budget, and it locks the district into a decade of rising rent payments if the extension option is used.
The evidence
The June 11, 2026 minutes record the unanimous roll-call vote approving the lease agreement with the Archdiocese of Boston for the St. James School building at 415 Primrose Street, and the district's RFP response documents the year-by-year rent schedule.
