How is Haxtun School District paid for?

Colorado school-finance formula, local mill levy and a state BEST construction grant

Haxtun School District RE-2J serves the town of Haxtun in Phillips County and parts of Logan, Sedgwick and Yuma counties on Colorado's eastern plains. It runs an elementary school (PreK-6) and a junior/senior high school (7-12) with roughly 290 students. Most operating money comes from Colorado's per-student funding formula, which mixes local property tax and state aid. The board certified the district's mill levy for property tax year 2025 on December 2, 2025. Construction money comes from the state's BEST program, which the district is using for a $24 million project. A seven-member elected board adopts the budget and hires the superintendent, Aron Jones.
