District news

Grades 3-8 English test proficiency fell from 55% to 47%

Curriculum

What happened

A district slide says Hicksville's grades 3-8 ELA proficiency went from 55% to 47%. It says Nassau County fell about 13% in proficiency, so Hicksville's drop was smaller. The same meeting reviewed Regents and AP results.

Why it matters to families

Lower reading and writing scores matter for students' next grades. Fork Lane Elementary and the middle school already have state support labels.

The evidence

Slide text: 'Hicksville district proficiency percentage went from 55% to 47%, only an 8% decline.' The slide does not name the years; the 2025-26 state test is the most recent. Minutes for this meeting were not yet posted.
