District news
Second year of budget cuts: $10.2 million and about 49 jobs

What happened
The 2026-27 budget plans $10.2 million in cuts that affect about 49 positions: 36.5 teachers and other licensed staff, 11 classified staff and 1.4 administrators. Middle and high schools will have more students per staff member. This comes after a $20 million cut in 2025-26, which the district calls its biggest ever.
Why it matters to families
Fewer staff and higher staffing ratios can mean bigger classes and fewer course choices, especially in middle and high school. The district says costs are rising faster than state funding and enrollment is falling, down 409 students in fall 2025.
The evidence
The adopted 2026-27 budget's budget message states the district is 'anticipating another $10.2 million in reductions' affecting '49 staff members/positions: 36.5 licensed, 11 classified, and 1.4 administrators,' including higher staffing ratios at middle and high school, after a $20 million cut the prior year. The June 16, 2026 packet lists a reduction in force of six licensed staff (at South Meadows, Glencoe, Century, Tobias and Hillsboro High); the September 22 packet recalls three of them.
