What happened

Policy 09.4261 requires school-based rules that prohibit student personal telecommunications-device use throughout the school day, subject to specified emergency and administrative-procedure exceptions.

Why it matters to families

The rule applies across district schools and governs when students may use phones and similar personal devices.

The evidence

The current policy was amended August 11. The July review found 27,045 classroom and 3,517 non-classroom violations, with 1,855 and 491 suspensions respectively; the district said available data could not establish that the policy caused academic changes.
