What happened

JCPS is asking the board to return school-based decision-making authority to Sanders Elementary’s council, which had been transferred to the superintendent after the school was identified for comprehensive support and improvement. The proposal is on the November 10, 2026, agenda; Sanders became eligible for restoration after exiting that status on October 3, 2024.

Why it matters to families

If approved, school-level decisions would again be made through Sanders Elementary’s school-based council rather than under authority transferred to the superintendent.

The evidence

The November 10 agenda recommends reinstating the Sanders Elementary School-Based Decision-Making (SBDM) Council’s authority. It states that authority had transferred to the superintendent when the school was identified for CSI and that the school became eligible for reinstatement two years after exiting CSI, on October 3, 2026.
