What happened

The board adopted the 2026-27 budget on June 11, 2026, appropriating about $1.41 billion across all funds. General fund revenue is about $977 million, slightly down from $978 million. Spending is planned to use about $13 million of savings, after $49-51 million was used in 2025-26. Staff forecast savings use of $18 million and $22 million in the next two years, with unassigned reserves falling to $3 million in 2027-28 and $0 in 2028-29.

Why it matters to families

Running down savings cannot go on. The plan says that without a voter-approved tax increase, the district would look at salary freezes, fewer work days, staff cuts and more school closures.

The evidence

The adopted-budget slides and the June 11 cover memo describe the numbers and the resolution's plan to align revenue and expenses.
