Teachers hired on emergency licenses; board looks to J-1 visas

What happened

With teaching jobs unfilled, the board hired four teachers under emergency licensure in July and August 2026. In May it let the superintendent pursue J-1 visas for foreign teachers, after deciding green-card sponsorship for three current foreign teachers was too much for the district.

Why it matters to families

Teachers on emergency licenses are not yet fully certified. Recruiting has been a struggle all year: no applicants for cook and aide jobs, and job ads mailed to other states.

The evidence

July 30, 2026 emergency meeting minutes; May 19 and April 30 minutes on visas and green cards.
