Juneau Borough School District — Day-to-day

The district's day-to-day childcare picture shifted significantly over the 2025–26 school year. The RALLY afterschool childcare program shut down in summer 2025, and on February 10, 2026 the board formally closed it out by returning $1,050,000 in city funds that were restricted to afterschool care, while keeping up to $180,000 of RALLY reserves for the Dzantik'i Heeni playground.

On the meal side, universal free breakfast for all students — added in fall 2025 with one-time state veto-override money — was slated for removal in the January FY27 budget direction. At final budget adoption on March 10, 2026, the board amended the plan to keep the program, preserving this day-to-day benefit for students.

Later, the district moved to restore the lost on-site childcare. The board scheduled final approval on August 13, 2026 of a lease letting Little Stars (The Spark, LLC), a private licensed provider, run an afterschool childcare program inside Sayéik: Gastineau Community School, bringing back on-site care that had been replaced by busing students to Harborview after RALLY closed.
