What happened

The Department asked school systems to certify their personal-device and social-media policies by August 31. That was its operating deadline; the law’s certification date was September 1.

Why it matters to families

The rules concern student-owned devices and some staff-student communication. Health and disability exceptions and allowed school platforms matter.

The evidence

The August 27 official update describes certification and exceptions. Its report that 250 of 297 systems had certified was a dated snapshot, not proof of full implementation. School-issued learning devices are a separate issue.

The source

Certification of personal electronic devices and social media policies due Aug. 31
