District news

All-day phone and smartwatch ban in effect, with locker storage

Day-to-day

What happened

Policy 7316 bans students from using phones, smartwatches, tablets and other internet devices anywhere on school grounds all day, including lunch and passing time. Elementary devices go in classroom lockers, turned off; middle and high school devices go in locked lockers, turned off. Students cannot be suspended just for breaking the rule.

Why it matters to families

This changes every school day for students and families. Parents cannot text children during the day; messages go through the office or, in grades 5-12, the Canvas system, and phones come back at dismissal.

The evidence

The district's implementation plan, revised August 1, 2026, spells out storage by grade level, parent contact methods and exceptions (teacher-approved lessons, health care, emergencies, translation, IEP or 504 plans). Policy 7316 sets the same rule.
