What happened

The board hired Kara Four Bear as permanent superintendent, starting July 1, 2026. She is the district's third top leader in a year: Interim Superintendent PJ Ford Slack resigned in October 2025 as the district faced what the board called a serious risk to daily operations, and Sheri Boehlert then ran the district as interim superintendent from December 2025 to June 2026.

Why it matters to families

A superintendent runs the whole district day to day: hiring, budgets, and school programs. Three leadership changes in one year, landing in the middle of a multi-million-dollar budget crisis, made it harder for families and staff to know who was in charge and slowed decisions on the district's finances and school closures.

The evidence

The October 22, 2025 board agenda includes a motion accepting Superintendent Ford Slack's resignation; an October 29, 2025 board work-session statement says central-office staffing gaps pose 'a serious risk to overall function and stability.' A December 8, 2025 agenda statement shows the board hiring Sheri Boehlert as interim superintendent through June 30, 2026. A February 11, 2026 agenda statement shows the board interviewing finalists Dr. Anthony Graham, Sheri Boehlert, and Kara Four Bear for the permanent job, and Four Bear's July 8, 2026 superintendent report confirms she began serving July 1, 2026.
