What happened

The district was ranked first in line for Florida's Special Facilities construction money, which was due to start July 1, 2026. In June 2026, the builder said the Florida House left that money for small rural counties out of the state budget, so the project is delayed one year.

Why it matters to families

Small counties like Lafayette depend on this state program for major building projects. The district says it will not have to reapply, but any building work waits at least another year. The state may also change how the program works.

The evidence

June 16, 2026 minutes: Culpepper Construction 'explained that although the District had previously been ranked first to receive funding, the funding line was bypassed during the state legislative process... the project will be delayed for one year.' October 21, 2025 workshop minutes: 'Our first year of funding is scheduled to begin on July 1, 2026.'
