Small rural district funded mostly by state per-student money, with local taxes and state building grants
Lamar Re-2 serves Lamar, Colorado, in Prowers County, with about 1,250 students. Colorado pays districts mainly by a per-student formula, and local property taxes cover part of the cost. Building projects depend on local bond money and state BEST grants. A seven-member elected board adopts the budget, certifies the mill levy each December and approves policies.
Enrollment
1,252 students on the first day of school in August 2026, not counting preschool. The district received an enrollment (demography) study in February 2026.
Reserves
The general fund balance was almost $13 million in September 2026 and the capital projects fund about $3 million. About $8 million of reserves sit in local-bank CDs, and the board is writing an investment policy.
Pay
The board approved a 5% raise for all staff in April 2026 and a compressed salary schedule. Base pay is $46,000.
Who decides
Seven directors, each from one of seven director districts. Regular meetings are the second Monday at 5:30 p.m. Two vacancies were filled by appointment in December 2025.
The posted minutes summarize finances but do not include the full budget book, so revenue per student is not stated here.
