School's new roof isn't up to code and will be replaced
What happened
Kirkness Roofing told the board on September 28, 2026 that the roof it installed is not code-compliant and must be replaced, after leaks and an outside inspection by Bradford Roofing. The board chose to have Kirkness replace the whole roof in summer 2027 to current building code, instead of a full refund.
Why it matters to families
Leaks can damage classrooms and equipment until the roof is replaced. The board required Kirkness to fix leaks over the winter and keep the drains working.
The evidence
September 28, 2026 special meeting minutes: Kirkness said 'the roof was not code compliant and must be replaced' and offered Option 1, replacement in summer 2027, or Option 2, a 100% refund. The board approved Option 1 with three conditions. The board had hired Kirkness in July 2025.
