Board backs an athletic complex on district land in downtown Monument

Facilities

What happened

On March 16 the board adopted a resolution supporting study of a privately owned athletic complex built by the Monument Athletic Foundation on district land that includes the Grace Best property, and amended it April 20 to cut district costs and share revenue. The district would lease the land and would still owe demolition and asbestos cleanup of old buildings. On Nov. 3 the Foundation reported it had gained nonprofit status and the board discussed proposed demolition of the Grace Best building.

Why it matters to families

The land is part of the district's central campus, and a lease, demolition costs and the district's share of revenue would affect district money and property for years.

The evidence

The March 16 and April 20 minutes record the resolutions and the resolution text says the plan is non-binding and subject to later approvals. The Nov. 3 work session slides and minutes give the latest update. No lease has been approved.
