District plans 30 to 35 fewer employees for 2026-27 as enrollment falls

Financial

What happened

The administration's 2026-27 budget summary expects the average number of regular employees to fall by 30 to 35. About half of the reduction would come from elementary schools, about one third from secondary schools and the rest from central services. The district calls this "right-sizing" after enrollment was projected to fall by 164 students. The board heard an update on right-sizing on May 5.

Why it matters to families

Staffing is the largest cost in a school budget, so fewer employees can mean changes in class sizes, programs and jobs at the schools named.

The evidence

The May budget summary states the 30 to 35 employee decline and the split by level. The May 5 minutes show the right-sizing update. The packet does not list which positions or schools are affected.
