Phone policy: 29 enforcement actions in 2025-26, mostly at the high school

Day-to-day

What happened

The district's first annual report on its distraction-free (phone) policy, Board Policy 5325, counts 29 actions: 24 at the high school, 5 at the middle school, none in elementary. It flags that students with IEPs and 10th graders were over-represented at the high school, and plans staff training and a quarterly review starting fall 2026.

Why it matters to families

The report shows how the phone rule is enforced day to day. It also names a possible fairness problem the district says it will address.

The evidence

The 2025-26 annual enforcement report gives the counts by grade and says high school actions were mainly for refusing to hand over a device or recording without permission.
