What happened

Staff asked the board to approve refinancing the remaining 2016 and 2017 general obligation bonds. About $86.46 million of old bonds averaging 5.012% interest would be replaced by $78.44 million of new bonds near 3.545%. Payments over the life of the bonds would drop by about $11.7 million. The sale was planned to close September 3, 2026.

Why it matters to families

Bond payments come from local property taxes, so lower interest saves Mapleton taxpayers money, though the district's own budget does not change.
