How does Martin County fund its schools and new elementary project?

State aid and local taxes support operations; a new elementary project would replace two older buildings.

A five-member elected Board controls budgets and policy. The same members govern the Finance Corporation used for school-facility borrowing. The FY 2025 audit identifies SEEK state funding, local property and other taxes, and federal grants, with restrictions on how different funds may be used.

Operating resources

The FY 2025 General Fund reports $17.42 million in revenue and $17.26 million in expenditures, including state-paid benefits. Its $8.40 million year-end balance is a fund measure, not a current cash balance.

Construction resources have a separate purpose

The June 2025 construction-fund balance was $19.63 million and restricted to construction. It is not the final cost of the new elementary school or unrestricted operating money.

School-property exchange

The audit describes a conditional exchange: land near Martin County High School would come to the district, while Inez Elementary, Martin County Middle and related athletic fields would transfer after state approval and facility completion. The audit does not establish a completed exchange.

Who decides

The Board sets district policy and fiscal decisions; a May 2026 Super Council agenda separately records SBDM council discussion with no action. Finance Corporation and working sessions remain separate occurrences.

The audit covers the year ended June 30, 2025. It does not supply an adopted FY 2027 all-funds budget or a reliable current spending-per-pupil figure.

Construction and procurement items continue on agendas

The FY 2025 audit says the new elementary school is intended to replace two older buildings. A conditional property exchange includes existing Inez Elementary and Martin County Middle sites.

Next: Furniture proposals are due November 9, 2026. Confirm the actual opening and installation schedule: the audit targets fall 2027, while the later request anticipates furniture installation after December 28, 2027.

Funding
