What happened

On May 28, 2026 the board approved the 2026-27 budget. The treasurer said the general fund is $45.5 million and the excess levy fund $10.2 million. Basic state aid fell by $751,000, both levies brought in less, and the state now requires a 5% reserve instead of 3%. The budget includes a 3% pay raise, a 3% rise in employee health premiums and a 20% rise in electricity costs.

Why it matters to families

Rising costs and falling state aid put pressure on staffing as enrollment drops.

The evidence

In the May 28, 2026 recording, the treasurer says the "total operating budget for FY27 for the general fund is 45.5 million", that the state is "requiring every county to have a 5% reserve for contingency", and lists a "3% pay raise". The board approves the proposed budget.
