Four school leaders retire and are rehired

Admin hiring

What happened

The principals of the high school, middle school and intermediate school, plus the middle school assistant principal, retired on June 30, 2026. The board then rehired all four on one-year contracts. It called the rehiring urgent because of four retirements at once, a new superintendent and treasurer, and money concerns.

Why it matters to families

The same leaders stay in charge this year, but only on one-year contracts, so more principal changes could come next year.

The evidence

The July 22, 2026 minutes publish the emergency 30-day notice naming Jody Howard, Vickie Jones, David Deem and Mike Chancey and the urgent reasons. The August 26 minutes record the resolution accepting their retirements and rehiring each one.
