District news
Cafeteria and storage addition bid comes in at $1.7 million; the bond is $1.2 million

What happened
The only construction bid for the cafeteria extension, added storage and generator came in at about $1.7 million, above the $1.2 million bond. Removing 600 square feet of storage cuts it to about $1.3 million, still high. Nothing has been signed.
Why it matters to families
The district has to find more money or shrink the project. Kitchen space and a backup generator matter on school days and in emergencies.
The evidence
August 12 work session minutes: 'Bid came in for construction total 1.7 million, the bond is for 1.2 million... If we take out 600 sq. ft for storage it drops to 1.3 million, which is still projecting high... We have not signed anything.' The June 17 minutes show the board accepted the construction proposal from Saunders Norwood Construction, the only bid, and the July 9 retreat agenda covers the bond build. Generator donation is being explored.
