Who runs Miami-Yoder schools and how are they funded?

Very small rural district funded by the state per student plus a voter-approved bond for building projects

Miami-Yoder School District JT-60 serves Rush, Yoder and the surrounding area of El Paso County and neighboring counties in Colorado, with roughly 340 students in one K-12 campus. Colorado pays districts mainly per student, and the district also has a bond for building projects. A five-member elected board meets on the second Wednesday of most months, with a work session at 6:00 p.m. and the regular meeting at 7:00 p.m. Superintendent Tonya Rodwell reports to the board.

Small school, small classes

In August and September 2026 reports put elementary enrollment around 170 and grades 6-12 around 180 (73 in middle school and 108 in high school in September).

Building project

The bond covers $1.2 million for a cafeteria extension, storage and a generator, but the only bid was about $1.7 million, so the board is looking at changes and donations.

Space

The elementary principal said in August the building has no room for special education or intervention space.

Money to watch

The board is weighing athletic fees, paying dues and fees for postsecondary courses, and new elementary positions that need curriculum funding.

Only three months of minutes are posted online, so this page cannot show earlier decisions or the full budget.

bid over budget

A single construction bid came in near $1.7 million. Dropping 600 sq. ft of storage lowers it to about $1.3 million. The board has not signed a contract and is seeking a generator donation.
