Third school project heads to the state for approval
What happened
The building committee moved to have its project managers, Colliers, submit the Forest Avenue school's schematic design to the Rhode Island Department of Education as a Stage III package. Stage III is the point at which the state signs off on a design and the reimbursement that goes with it. Forest Avenue is the third project in Middletown's programme, after the new middle-high school and the conversion of the current high school into an elementary school, and it is the one the building committee earmarked a $629,008 funding surplus for.
Why it matters to families
It decides whether Middletown's third school building gets state money behind it, and it commits the town to a design rather than a sketch.
The evidence
The July 16, 2026 joint meeting record and the July 15, 2026 building committee agenda both list the item to consider and vote to approve Colliers to submit the Forest Avenue Schematic Design RIDE Stage III package to the RIDE SBA portal. The November 12, 2025 building committee minutes record the $629,008 surplus earmarked for Forest Avenue.
